Middle school students get a musical suprise

Students at Lake Weir Middle School were presented with more than $20,000 in instruments for the band program. The brass and percussion instruments were donated this morning by Fidelity Investments. The gift far exceeds the school’s average yearly band budget of $2,500. Marion County Public Schools Spokesman Kevin Christian says support from the community helps in this economy.

“In this day and age with the budget the way it is for public education, especially here in Florida, and all across the country, it is very important that we have the support of the private community. They’re really the ones that make a lot of things happen,” he says.

Christian adds the students were all very shocked and excited.
