Police arrested a 39-year-old Gainesville man Monday on suspicion that he stole machetes, knives, ropes, shorts and gloves from the Archer Road Wal-Mart.

Terry Roberts was arrested at 9 a.m. after taking $175.70 worth of machetes and knives, according to a news release from Gainesville police.

"He stole about six machetes and knives total, along with some ropes, shorts and gloves," Gainesville police spokesman Ben Tobias later told WUFT.

Roberts left the store without paying and was caught quickly after fleeing from a police officer. He was charged with retail theft and resisting an officer, the release said.

Roberts also has warrants in Missouri for felony theft and violation of probation. He was taken to the Alachua County Jail without bond.
