Bob Vila, UF CJC Class of 1969

Bob Vila graduated from the University of Florida in 1969 with a degree in journalism. Today he is a television director, author and presenter.

Overall, Vila has spent nearly 30 years hosting a variety of nationally televised home-improvement shows, including “Bob Vila,” “Bob Vila’s Home Again” and “This Old House.” His Home Again show ran for 17 seasons before moving over to YouTube, where they are an unceasing success.

Vila continues to release content through his website, making his current most prominent role a web publisher. Vila built a legacy with his extension of DIY (do-it-yourself) programming, becoming a household name and an inspiration to a great deal of people. Some even claim that he was the father of reality TV, according to Fox Business.

Vila remains a prominent figure through social media sites such as Twitter, Pinterest and more. Vila has also written 12 books, including a five-book series titles Bob Vila’s Guide to Historic Homes in America.

He also recently launched the Bob Vila Academy, where experts teach online classes that help guide people through building incredible projects and learn lifelong skills.

All in all, Vila has spent his life helping people improve not only their homes, but also their lives.
