The University of Florida's College of Medicine and College of Nursing both received grants to further research in their fields and help to make more advances in health. The college of nursing received a donation from a graduate and Research to Prevent Blindness benefitted the college of medicines's ophthalmology department.

Children in Lake City and Ocala will be able to receive care closer to home because of a partnership between their local community community pediatricians and Shands in Gainesville. Specialists from Shands will travel to the cities to provide the same care they provide locally at the hospital.
