Flower shops affected by Valentine’s Day sales

Valentine’s Day draws in more flower sales than any other day of the year. According to the Society of American Florists, 30% of all floral purchases are made for the holiday.

The Plant Shoppe Florist Owner Betsy Gardner said this Valentine’s Day in particular is busier than most because it falls on a Wednesday.

“Chaos. Chaos is the word I would use,” Betsy said. “I equate Valentine’s Day to a sprint. Everybody wants everything on the same day.”

Since the holiday takes place in the middle of the week, Betsy said many people cannot make extravagant plans or go out of town. As a result, the gesture of gifting someone a flower for the day is blossoming in popularity.

Her small business had to purchase extra floral products, rent a refrigerated trailer, and work overtime on weekends to keep up with the demands of customers, she said. Florists suggest you get your flower orders in as soon as possible.
