Police on Wednesday announced the arrests of two men in a fatal stabbing that happened Tuesday morning near a southwest Gainesville apartment complex.

Gainesville police allege that Tasireous I. Townsend, 20, and D’Angelo J. Bridges, 18, were involved in an altercation with another man at Phoenix Apartments, 3100 SW 26th Drive, when Townsend stabbed the third man in his chest. Both Townsend and Bridges fled, police say, before officers later found and interviewed them. They eventually arrested and transported both men to the Alachua County Jail.

The stabbing victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital and died.

Townsend is charged with murder and tampering with evidence. Bridges is charged with aggravated battery with a weapon, tampering with evidence and giving a false name to a law enforcement officer.

The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information to contact Det. Bernal at 352-393-7729.
