Santa Fe College will start the first physical therapist assistant program in Gainesville in fall 2016. The degree is a year-and-a-half long program and will accept 24 students each fall.

Fifteen inches of rain fell over 48 hours throughout the weekend, said Maj. Scott Harden of the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office. According to Harden, 200 homes and 50 streets and roads have flooded.

The Hal Brady Recreation Complex in Alachua and Champions Park in Newberry are hosting teams for the Babe Ruth League World Series. Sixty-one teams will compete in various tournament styles beginning on July 31 and ending with the championship games on August 4.

Brain Works in Gainesville uses auditory training to treat learning disabilities and brain trauma. It's helped 13-year-old Nate with his dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia, but scientists question how effective the treatment really is.
