As the television news audience declines, a theme of diversity is becoming more important than ever. Station executives realize the important of capturing as many news consumers as possible. This can be done by recruiting a staff reflective of a given community and covering stories that appeal to various demographics.

Lowe believes diversity is more than a buzz word. She says it is a concept news organizations must constantly consider in order to best serve a community.
