One teen was killed and another injured in a crash at the intersection of Southeast Maricamp Road and Bahia Road in Ocala Sunday afternoon.

Philip Catalano, 17, of Ocala, was traveling westbound on Maricamp Road and was turning left onto Bahia Road when an oncoming motorcycle crashed into his vehicle, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The front of 17-year-old Ocala resident Nickolas Watke’s 1997 Yamaha motorcycle collided with Catalano’s 2013 Hyundai Accent, flinging Watke from the motorcycle onto a grassy shoulder of the intersection.

Watke was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:34 p.m. Sunday. Catalano suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center.

It was unclear whether charges have been or will be filed, and Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Connie McNeill, who sent out the release, wasn't immediately available for comment.
