Top Chef gives Gulf seafood the spotlight

Gainesville seafood vendors are excited about the coverage Gulf seafood will receive today on a national cooking show. Bravo’s Top Chef is featuring gulf seafood to remind America it is safe to eat. Gainesville’s Northwest Seafood Co-Owner Lee Dedrick says the oil spill is still affecting people’s perception.

“Customers are afraid basically, you know they’re just scared about eating out of the Gulf when things have been contaminated and they’ve been lied to,” he says.

Dedrick says Gainesville residents are still wondering about the quality of local seafood but what’s local is safe to eat and produced in an area never affected by the oil spill.
