Basketball tournament heads to Gainesville
Green Bay Packers Defensive back Nick Collins will be hosting his annual fundraising basketball tournament this weekend. The Sixth Annual Nick Collins Scholarship Fund Basketball Tournament at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center for the first time this Saturday March 19, 2011. Senior Event Coordinator Chris Singleton says money raised from the tournament will be put towards athletic scholarships. The event is open to the public and doors will open at 9 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 10a.m.

Because of years of deterioration, the Thomas Center has applied for a $75,000-grant from the Division of Historical Resources Bureau of Historic Preservation to restore a fountain some say dates back to 1928. The Thomas Center had to match 25 percent of the requested funds in its own budget to be considered eligible by the Florida Department of State.
