Rebuild Bay County Hosts 'Pray For Bay' Event Six Months After Hurricane Michael

Rebuild Bay County, which is made up of over 70 organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and Doorways of North West Florida, held their 'Pray for Bay' event six months after Hurricane Michael ravaged the area.

Organizations running the event hope it reminds everyone in Bay County that they have not been forgotten.

Michael caused an estimated $661 million in damages in Bay County, more than double the county's budget. Bay also lost 10 percent of its population. The county has borrowed $251 million already, to be reimbursed by FEMA.

The money has been spent on debris removal, protective measures and other reparations. But it will still take at least five years for everything to return to normal, according to FEMA.

"It's a purgatory, somewhere between heaven and hell," said County Commissioner Griff Griffitts. "We're fighting everyday."
