During a fly over on Wednesday around noon Clay County officials found these horses surrounded by rising water off of Sunnyside Drive in Middleburg. They could have moved to higher ground but would not do so on their own. CCSO and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Swift Water Rescue Team went in and lead them to higher ground. They were fine, but had they stayed in the area it may have had a bad outcome. Meanwhile, Black Creek has now been reopened. The Clay County Sheriff's Office recommends idle speed in the north and south prongs of the creek and no water boarding or skiing in any portion of the creek at this time. The Main Street boat ramp will remain closed due to a large amount of muck has collected on the ramp and makes it difficult to launch and retrieve a boat. The Old Ferry Road boat ramp was scheduled to be reopened by 3 p.m. The Marine Unit will be out and will take strict enforcement regarding reckless operation of watercraft at the mouth of the St. Johns River to motorized boat traffic. Authorities caution boaters to look out for floating debris such as docks, boat houses, refrigerators, and trees which may be freely floating and creating a serious navigational hazard.
