The University of Florida has suspended quarterback Treon Harris and receiver Antonio Callaway for unknown reasons.

Coach Jim McElwain revealed at a press conference on Tuesday that Harris and Callaway haven’t been with the team since January but didn't offer further details.

Senior Associate Athletics Director Steve McClain confirmed to WUFT later that the two players are suspended.

“They’re still doing some school work and that kind of stuff," McElwain said at the press conference, "but they haven’t been with us since January. And they won’t be with us as we’re rolling, so you won’t see those guys out there at practice.

"And that’ll be the last we talk about that."

Reporters at the press conference repeatedly asked McElwain to clarify why Harris and Callaway will no longer be on the team, but McElwain didn't answer their questions.

The Gators are scheduled to open spring practice on Wednesday.
