Skeletal remains found in Ocala

A man discovered human skeletal remains near NE 35th Street on Sunday inside a tent in Ocala.

Authorities said the remains could have been there between six months to a year. Some bones were covered with a blanket.

Sgt. Angy Scroble, public information officer for the Ocala Police Department, said police received a call from the Marion County Sheriff's Office indicating someone found the remains in a small camp site located near the railroad.

Scroble said there are no leads yet as to what happened.

"We don't know how long he or she had been there," Scroble said.

Police called in medical examiners to collect the bones, Scroble said, and OPD is waiting on the medical examiner's office to provide further assistance.

According to Ocala.com, police found a skull and remnants of neck bones around the area.
