Prior to Tropical Depression Beryl, the lack of rain was a major factor in an algal bloom in the Santa Fe River near High Springs. A public forum will be held tonight at Poe Springs Park providing tips and expert knowledge to residents on the most recent algal bloom. Florida's 89.1, WUFT-FM's Catherine Awasthi spoke with President of Our Santa Fe River Merrillee Malwitz-Jipson on what this meeting will offer, and why these blooms occur.
