Gainesville Is Edging Back Toward Normalcy After Hermine

More than 17,000 homes lost power early Friday morning as Hurricane Hermine roared into Gainesville, according to a press release from Gainesville Regional Utilities

As of now, no storm-related injuries have been reported in Gainesville, according to the Gainesville Police Department. However, a homeless man was killed last night after a tree fell on his tent in Marion County.

A total of 37 trees were brought down by the storm in Gainesville. Some are reportedly blocking roads while at least two have fallen into separate residences - one at Cabana Beach Apartments and another at a house on SW 39th Drive.

The Emergency Operations Center continues to monitor the weather but as of now city staff has returned to normal operations.
