Construction will begin Jan. 17 for a Florida Department of Transportation six-mile trail stretching from Gainesville to Archer.
The state-funded trail will cost just over $1 million and should be completed around March or April.
"Folks will start seeing construction signs go up tomorrow and Friday,” said Laurie Windham, project spokeswoman. “Work should begin Monday at the Archer end of the trail."
The parking area will be built near the Archer water tower at the western end of the trail. The lot will have five parking spaces, which Windham believes should be more than enough.
The trail will be 10-feet wide, making it suitable for only biking, walking, rollerblading and skateboarding. No motorized vehicles will be allowed.
Lane closures during construction are possible, but will only occur after 8 a.m. on weekdays.
Construction updates can be found at the Florida Department of Transportation's Twitter feed.
