County board pushes for bike lanes

In an effort to make Alachua County more bike friendly, suggestions were tossed around tonight at the county’s monthly Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory Board meeting. The county is looking to add bike lanes to major roads in the area while keeping safety a top priority. Advisory Board member William Baruch says an increase in bike lanes would be a huge step in the right direction.

“More bicycle lanes would improve safety immensely. Many people want to use a bicycle and are too afraid to do it because of the congested streets,” he says.

These additions would be on-track with the county’s overall goal of making all modes of transportation easier in the area. The Alachua County Commission passed a multi-modal transportation fee last week which would fund more navigable travel routes divided by type of vehicle.
