Ponte Vedra Takes Down Clay County In Fla. Football Playoffs

The Sharks took down the Blue Devils at home in Florida’s state 5A semi-final high school football game Friday night.

Ponte Vedra High School, ranked third, beat eighth-ranked Clay High School 52-42 on the Blue Devils' home field in the Florida state semifinals. A combined total of 49 points were scored in the fourth quarter alone.

The Sharks will now travel to Orlando for the state finals on Friday, facing the American Heritage Patriots, ranked first in their division and defending their 2015 state championship.

Abby Solaun, a 23-year-old University of Florida student, drove from Gainesville to watch her younger brother, Sharks strong safety Noah Solaun, from the stands.

“It was definitely a nail-biter,” she said of the game.

Each team’s offense played well, keeping the score within 10 points the majority of the game.

Solaun said she won’t be able to go to Orlando for the state finals but will be keeping up with the score online.

“I know the players are all super excited to go down to Orlando next week,” she said.
