March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

March is a time set aside to remind men and women alike to speak with their healthcare providers about getting screened for the colorectal cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, colon cancer is the third leading cause of cancer deaths for men and women. More than 142-thousand new cases are expected to develop this year alone. However, University of Florida Associate Professor of Surgery, Emina Huang spoke with WUFT-FM’s Veronica Vilar and says if the disease is detected in its early stages, there is a 90-percent survival rate.
