A motorcyclist drove into an Alachua County school bus Monday around 2 p.m. at the intersection of NE 12th Street and NE 23rd Avenue. The crash closed NE 23rd Avenue for several hours.
Fifteen students were on the school bus, said Gainesville Police Department Lt. Will Halvosa, but none were injured.
Halvosa said the school bus was traveling north on NE 12th Street when the motorcyclist, traveling east on NE 23rd Avenue, hit the side of the bus.
The motorcyclist did not have a helmet on and was taken to Shands at UF with critical injuries.
Halvosa said GPD is handling the case as a traffic homicide in the event that the motorcyclist's condition worsens.
GPD is investigating the crash. Neither the school bus driver nor motorcyclist has been blamed for the accident.
