The Old Florida Celebration of the Arts

Welcoming only 100 high-quality artists and about 15,000 visitors annually, the event radiates a relaxed and friendly atmosphere often missing in larger venues. The island community of Cedar Key is surrounded by the Lower Suwannee and Cedar Keys National Wildlife Refuge on Florida’s Gulf Coast. This free event benefits the Cedar Key Arts Center, the coordinating sponsor, in addition to local non-profit and Cedar Key School groups who serve delicious food, beverages and goodies during the festival. Free Tax Preparation Assistance

IRS-certified volunteers with AARP Foundation Tax-Aide and United Way VITA will provide free income tax preparation. Patrons are allowed help with one tax return per one-hour session. Sessions are by appointment only, but walk-ins will be accepted if time permits. Select locations will have first-come first-serve Saturday walk-in sessions. Cooking Up Health:  The Mediterranean Way

Join us for a journey through healthy eating, the Mediterranean Way. This six-week series is based on the Med Instead of Meds program developed by NC State University. It teaches participants how to plan meals and explore recipes inspired by the Mediterranean Diet—a way of eating that emphasizes fresh, flavorful, and nutritionally balanced foods.
Research shows that following this style of eating can promote overall health and significantly reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular (heart) disease, and some types of cancer. The registration cost includes all materials and food. Participants must register online by April 10, 2026. Limited to 20 participants.

Historic Haile Plantation Kitchen Grand Opening

After many long years of fundraising and construction, the Kitchen has been completed. The original kitchen burned down in the 1920s. Using archival photographs, the “new” kitchen was designed to look just like the original one, built in 1856. After the program, the Homestead and the Allen & Ethel Graham Visitors Center will remain open until 2 p.m. for visitors to explore. Free and open to the public. The Independence Project Inaugural Porch Fest

Beekeeping Series:  Pest & Disease Management

The UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office has developed a series of short courses that will help you get started as a beekeeper. This workshop covers the causes of honey bee colony losses, pest monitoring and pest management. Special emphasis on Varroa Mite.
Live bees will be used; please dress in protective clothing (closed-toe shoes, long sleeves, please bring your beekeeping suit if you own one). This immersive camp offers young performers the chance to explore the world of theatre through a variety of dynamic classes designed to inspire and challenge artists of all experience levels. Campers will build quick thinking and teamwork skills in Improv, learning to trust their instincts and create stories on the spot. In Stagecraft, they’ll discover the behind-the-scenes magic of theatre, exploring sets, props, and the technical elements that bring productions to life. Shakespeare classes introduce campers to the language and stories of the Bard in an accessible, engaging way, helping them find confidence in classical text and performance. Alachua County Crisis Center Volunteer Training

Volunteers are being recruited to answer the local crisis hotline, as well as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (988). The Alachua County Crisis Center provides free and confidential crisis response services to Gainesville and the surrounding community, almost all of which are provided by highly trained volunteers. Volunteering with the Crisis Center is a great way to support our community and those in need, while also learning valuable communication skills you can use for the rest of your life. Training is over 80 hours over the course of eight weeks. Volunteers learn crisis intervention and suicide prevention skills, which prepares them to answer our crisis lines. Dementia Caregiver Monthly In-Person Support Group

The public is invited to be a part of a monthly support group to find group connections while becoming more knowledgeable and skilled in dementia care. A portion of each meeting is devoted to a specific topic chosen in advance by the group, and a portion is open (yet guided) discussion. . The group is led by a Positive Approach to Care certified independent consultant, trainer, and coach. All are welcome to attend. Elder Options is the Area Agency on Aging for sixteen counties in North Central Florida. The agency oversees the efficient administration of home and community care programs and long term care services for elder Floridians. In partnership with lead agencies and local service providers, the agency serves thousands of frail, low-income seniors each year, providing home delivered meals (Meals on Wheels), personal care, transportation and other in-home services that help seniors to remain at home safely and with dignity and avoid or delay the need for more expensive nursing home care. The Epilepsy Foundation wants to help men and women who’ve suffered traumatic brain injuries or TBIs, which are a common form of injury that can lead to seizures and epilepsy in some cases.
