Sorting out Florida's higher education system

The University of Florida has claimed its spot in a very diverse system- it’s a message UF President Bernie Machen hopes to convey in front of the House High Education Committee today. Florida House Speaker Dean Cannon says the state's higher education system lacks focus, but UF Provost Joe Glover says the goals in Gainesville are clear.

He says there are valid concerns about the direction higher education is heading, and UF wants to work with the legislature to benefit the state and beyond.

He says the committee will take a global perspective as it continues to speak with the heads of Florida's public universities to begin to narrow focus and direction.
