The number of fatalities on the road is on the decline, but motorists are saying that's not enough. AAA Auto Club says drivers are willing to have more government intervention to improve roadway safety, AAA Traffic Safety Culture Director Michele Harris says the best safety improvement would start with drivers themselves.
She says drivers admit to taking part in behavior they say is dangerous while driving. To get motorists to take that personal responsibility, Harris says laws against distracted driving activities, like texting while driving, need to be taken up.
Triple A says the number of roadway fatalities in 2010, the most recent recorded year, was the lowest level in 60 years. Harris says it's a great improvement, but they will not be satisfied until the number of fatalities is zero.
