SFC beefs up patrols after recent kidnapping

At this hour the person who kidnapped an 18-year-old Santa Fe College student last week is still on the loose. Police handed out fliers this morning to students who might know the whereabouts of a man who, according to the victim, kidnapped her from a parking lot and drove around before she jumped out of the slow-moving car. Alachua County Sheriff's office spokesman Art Forgey says officers are still following leads.

Forgey says crime rates are always up and down, but in the past several months, there has been a rise in high profile cases.

He says they believe the kidnapper did not target the woman specifically.

In the meantime, Santa Fe College Police Chief Ed Book says they are doing everything they can to keep their students safe.
