An autopsy is planned for a north Florida man who died after jumping from a speeding boat into a lake. Officials say the body of William Scott Wilkes, 31, of Green Cove Springs owas found early Saturday in Little Santa Fe Lake near the city of Waldo. Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Richard Rooney says alcohol may have played a factor in the man’s death.The body was found 75-to-100-yards from where Wilkes jumped into the water Friday night. Sheriff’s diving teams from three counties assisted in the search for the Green Cove Springs man.
Meanwhile, Gainesville Police say a man they took into custody in a robbery case started having difficulty breathing, and later died. Police said Deshawn Montgomery stole cash from a Chevron station in the 5700 block of Northwest 34th Street before fleeing into the woods. G-P-D Spokeswoman Tscharna Senn says an officer located the 31-year old suspect breathing heavily.. Montgomery was transported to North Florida Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.
