Monday is the last day to register to vote or change your party affiliation for the Aug. 30 primary election.

In Alachua County, voters can update their registration status online at VoteAlachua.com. The Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Office, located at 515 N Main St., Suite 300, is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accept voter registration applications. On Aug. 1, the office will remain open until 6 p.m.

Additionally, voters may register at a Driver License Office, at any Alachua County Public Library or by mail.  Mail-in applications must be postmarked no later than the August 1 deadline.

Voter registration forms can also be picked up at any post office, municipal city hall, at the Santa Fe College student activities office, and at the University of Florida Reitz Union.

Florida is a closed primary state, meaning to vote for a party candidate in the primary, you must be registered in the same party as the candidate.

To change your party affiliation, you must submit either a signed written request containing your date of birth or voter registration number or you may submit a voter registration application form with your change of party.

All voters may vote in non-partisan races, on policy changes and in universal primary races. On the primary ballot, there is a non-partisan school board race, a vote on an amendment to the Florida Constitution and a universal primary for the supervisor of elections in Alachua County. A universal primary occurs when all candidates for an office are in the same party, there is no opposition in the general election, and the winner will be selected in the primary.
