Two Alachua County Sheriff's deputies were informed they will be fired pending a final investigation by the Office of Professional Standards. One of the deputies is running for Alachua County Sheriff.

Alachua County Sheriff candidate Zac Zedalis argued during a county commission meeting that 10 deputies would be able to keep their jobs if resources were reallocated within the departmental budget. Sheriff Sadie Darnell said the positions would have to be cut without extra funding.

An investigation is ongoing for a reported domestic battery incident that occurred last Thursday between the deputy and his wife, Sergeant Kathleen Zedalis of ACSO, who has also been suspended.

Zac Zedalis, a detective for the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, is running for Alachua County Sheriff in 2016. He will focus on the issues of low morale, budget concerns and cultural issues.
