The city elections are fast approaching. In order to vote on March 19, you must be a Gainesville resident and you must be registered to vote by Tuesday, Feb. 19.

State Sen. Jeff Clemens has filed a bill that would make voter registration at the DMV automatic.

Voters between the ages of 18 to 24 have been voting more in recent presidential elections, with an approximate 10 percent increase between 1996 and 2008. The statistic would be impressive if this same age group did not still possess the lowest voter turnout rate.

Be careful when you check your mailboxes: faulty voter status letters reached 20 Florida counties.

The deadline for Florida residents to register to vote is Oct. 9. Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Pam Carpenter said registering to vote is an easy process.

There are now some major changes to Florida’s election law in effect. Governor Rick Scott signed the bill, passed during this year’s legislative session, into law today (Thursday).
