Flu shots were offered instead of FluMist on Thursday at the University of Florida. Control Flu Alachua County canceled two FluMist clinics that were scheduled to come to the campus.

A candlelight vigil was held Friday for victims of the recent string of campus shootings in the country. A controversial bill in the Senate will determine if guns can legally be carried onto campuses.

The vigil organized by Student Government in memory of the death and injured in the Umpqua Community College was also held in memory of the victims of the Northern Arizona University when news broke about the second shooting only 8 days later.

Different events on campus and around Gainesville were held to remember the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

A demonstration was held Wednesday in Turlington Plaza on University of Florida's campus by Students for a Democratic Society and Students for Justice in Palestine. The purpose was to draw attention to those killed by Israeli Defense Forces as well as police brutality in Ferguson, Missouri.

“We’ll premiere it a festival hopefully in early 2014,” Bowers said of the new movie. “Yeah, we’ll definitely have a screening in Gainesville.”

Warning signs held by demonstrators cautioned students of the explicit nature of the photographs ahead. Some images illustrated the different developmental stages of an embryo, while others featured the dismembered limbs of aborted fetuses.

In 2009, Congress named Sept. 11 a National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor the victims of that infamous day. The bipartisan decision encouraged people to take action, and on Wednesday, the tradition continued in Gainesville.
