UF clinic provides treatment for long COVID symptoms

When 22-year-old Callen Camp got COVID in August 2021, she said it was the sickest she’s ever been.  By the time the University of Florida English senior was able to return to class, she said her brain was “muddy and slow.” Camp is among the nearly 1 in 5 U.S. adults who develop long COVID after experiencing COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Alachua County considers plan to partner with Newberry to establish new meat processing center

Alachua County is considering plans to partner with the City of Newberry to construct a new meat processing facility that will serve the entire county and potentially beyond.  Alachua County officials want to reorganize the county's food supply lines to be more locally based and independent by constructing the meat processing center in Newberry. Plans for the new facility originate from concerns about the nationwide supply chain issues that have occurred since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Pit bull rescue works to rehome dogs in crowded shelters

Plenty of Pit Bulls, a Gainesville nonprofit organization that specializes in placing at-risk shelter dogs in foster care, is looking for volunteers to provide homes for its rescued dogs. The group is hosting a fundraising event Oct. 2 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at First Magnitude Brewing Co., located at 1220 SE Veitch St. All proceeds go toward the dogs’ medical care and other needs.
