The UF Community Coalition met to discuss initiatives and current programs regarding excessive and underage drinking. Some of the initiatives involve finding better ways to educate students on alcohol safety to reduce alcohol-related accidents and the use of fake IDs.

University of Florida student, Narayan Kulkarni, recently won Gio Peace's International Essay Contest. His essay, which shares his story on the treatment he received from peers after 9/11 due to his ethnicity, was chosen out of 8,943 essays from 148 countries. Kulkarni will receive his award in Japan this week.

Rood Emmanuel, a UF psychology sophomore, is using his personal struggles to help others. He founded Igniting Dreams, a nonprofit organization that provides mentorship and scholarships to students in Gainesville and Palm Beach County. The organization will award its first scholarship to a student in Palm Beach County this year.

Read More »National Assessment Of Education Progress Scores Low In Florida
The 2015 scores for the National Assessment of Education Progress exam (NAEP) are out, and the overall results were low for Florida and the nation as a whole. The scores for Florida's eighth graders in the national math exam were lower than two years ago. Despite these low scores, Duval County Public schools were ranked among the top districts in the U.S. in both reading and math.
