Councilman Eugene Jefferson said the city does not have a deadline to complete a new logo. The city's former logo included the Confederate flag.

Lawmakers have discussed the flag's purpose and place in today's society on both the state and local level, but on Friday night, the discussion trickled down to the school level.

The Senate Rules Committee will meet Oct. 8 to begin re-examining the current emblem of the chamber. Under Senate rules, the seal includes "a fan of the five flags which have flown over Florida" --- those of the United States, Confederate States of America, France, Great Britain and Spain.

Council on American-Islamic Relations filed a lawsuit against Florida Gun Supply in Inverness, Fla. after Andy Hallinan, the owner, declared his store a “Muslim-Free Zone." Activists question what this policy implicates for all individuals who can be culturally profiled as Muslims in Florida.

Florida Democrats (@FlaDems) spoke out, Thursday, against the Confederate flag at McPherson Governmental Complex in Marion County. Using the hashtag #TakeItDown, this is the first time a party affiliation has spoken out about having the Confederate flag taken down.

A Tuesday Alachua County Commissioners meeting let residents voice their opinions on whether or not to keep the statue of the Confederate solider in downtown Gainesville. Some opponents of keeping the statue said that it was associated with slavery, while others in support of keeping it where it is said it is a symbol of history.

Both sides of the struggle over the downtown statue of the Confederate soldier protested feet away from each other Thursday night. Over 100 people crowded at the foot of the statue with chants, talks and conversation over the statue's symbolism.

Protesters seeking to remove the downtown statue of the Confederate soldier spoke to city officials for the first time since the campaign began in late June. This is the first of several efforts that will go on over the next two weeks among protesters who call for the County Commission to take down the statue.

Following the Charleston massacre, Alachua County residents call for the removal of a statue outside the Alachua County Administration Building that commemorates the Confederate dead. Supporters do not believe the statue is still relevant and hope that removing it will bring attention to the greater issue of white supremacy.
