Gainesville city officials recommend further investigation into claims that Intensive Treatment Modalities is treating sex offenders without a special permit at Thursday's policy meeting.

The City Commission of Gainesville moved Thursday to enter into a partnership with the the Alachua County Coalition for the Homeless and Hungry and the local Veteran’s Administration Office. The five-year agreement will focus on creating better housing and services for homeless veterans in Alachua County.

After a year-long, $1.8 million renovation, Bo Diddley Plaza officially reopened on Thursday.

Gainesville District 1 City Commissioner Charles Goston, Mayor Ed Braddy and other officials met recently to brainstorm ways to bring supermarkets and restaurants to East Gainesville. That area of town has only two full-service grocery stores, while West Gainesville has 24. Because of the dearth of supermarkets, East Gainesville has been labeled a "food desert," by the USDA.

Charles Goston and Harvey Budd won their Gainesville City Commission seats after Tuesday's run-off elections. Goston took the District 1 seat, and Budd won the at-large seat.

Gainesville City Commission District 1 and At-Large Seat 1 will be decided in a run-off election on April 14. Four candidates advanced from a pool of 10 who ran in the initial elections on March 17.

The Gainesville City Commission District 1 and City Commission At-Large elections ended Tuesday night with two run-offs. The final election will be held on April 14.
