Country music artist Colt Ford, who is scheduled to perform at the Florida Theater of Gainesville tonight, with doors opening at 8 p.m., spoke to a group of about 20 UF telecommunications students about his experiences in the music business Thursday afternoon.

The United Downtown event, hosted by the United Way of North Central Florida, is complete with games, food and live music in honor of another Gator game.

The sight of one-of-a-kind pieces, the smell of kettle corn wafting through the air and the sounds of laughter and conversation came from the young and old this weekend at the 31st annual Gainesville Downtown Festival & Art Show.

The Hippodrome Theatre is launching what they call a "campy twist" on the Stephen King novel Carrie. The show, which opens tonight and runs through Nov. 4, is a comedic version of the classic King novel involving a young woman dealing with her peers and her fundamentalist mother.
