A voicemail to Gainesville City Hall from a South Main Street business owner frustrated over finding someone had again defecated at the entrance to his business has prompted the city to investigate. Gainesville Mayor Lauren Poe, who received the voicemail earlier this week, said he has asked the city manager, the police chief and code enforcement to look into the problem as quickly as possible.

Alachua County Commissioner Robert Hutchinson continues to look for a temporary solution to the collapsed crossing on Northeast 96th Avenue — a portable, pre-fabricated, truss bridge used by the military to move heavy equipment. But he's had no luck in finding one yet. Alachua County Public Schools rolled out its mobile meals program yesterday to bring free lunches to children living in southwest Gainesville.

The Mobile Meal Program, a service that provides free food to children under the age of 18 at select locations, begins June 13. Food will be delivered to three communities: Linton Oaks, Hidden Oaks and Tower Oaks.
