Vehicle fire near Pugh Hall briefly closes Buckman and Fletcher drives Monday

Buckman Drive and Fletcher Drive were temporarily closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic Monday while firefighters with Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a van that caught fire near Pugh Hall at around 1:30 p.m.

A witness said she could see thick smoke emanating from the van as students walking in the area were directed to move away from the area.

University of Florida Police issued a public alert to avoid the area. UPD announced the fire had been extinguished and traffic could resume at 2:39 p.m. No other details were provided.
