Remains of missing 14-year-old girl identified after body found in Gilchrist County

Gilchrist County Sheriff Bobby Schultz and Dixie County Sheriff Darby Butler announced on Friday the identification of the remains of Demiah Appling, 14, who had been missing since October.

The remains were found Dec. 5 in Bell, and the Tallahassee FDLE Crime Lab subsequently confirmed their identify as Demiah. The death has been ruled a homicide, according to the 8th District Medical Examiner.

Demiah was reported missing from Old Town on Oct. 16.

Dixie County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, and authorities have not yet announced any suspects or arrests in the case.
