Local Firefighters Want Gainesville's Mayor to Resign

Gainesville Professional Firefighters voted no-confidence in Mayor Lauren Poe during a meeting on September 17.

On Monday, Nick Gonzalez, President of the Firefighter Union Local 2157 released a statement requesting Mayor Poe’s resignation. This comes after the City of Gainesville’s new vaccine mandate for all government employees.

In an email to WUFT, Mayor Poe responded to the union’s allegations. “I will continue to faithfully execute the duties of my office. The highest of these responsibilities is to protect the health and safety of our community builders and the neighbors they serve. I remain committed to that sacred,” said Poe.

The union believes Poe is not to blame for all the problems. However, since he’s the boss they want him to pay the cost.
