Eastside High School Students Win National Student Advocacy Award

By and

Thirteen local students won the national 2021 Milton Wolf Prize in Student Advocacy.

The students in Mrs. Zelaya’s class identified and researched a problem in their community.

They also presented their findings and possible solutions in English and Spanish to help educate others.

Along with a grant for the school, the winners were awarded cash prizes. Half of the $900 prize will be donated to Hurricane Ida relief and the other half will provide essentials for underprivileged students.

Even though the competition is over, the students plan on continuing their service efforts throughout the rest of the school year.
