Alachua County, Gainesville Leadership Meet to Discuss Emergency Radio Broadcast Deal

After their ten-year contract ran up with Gainesville Regional Utilities, Alachua County and the city of Gainesville are working to develop a new plan for their trunk radio system. Gainesville Regional Utilities has suggested to charge the county by the amount of ‘talk time’ on the radio for public safety messages. The Alachua County communications director worries this will have a negative impact on public safety. The deal has not been finished, as City Manager Lee Feldman was unable to reach a decision on Monday. The manager said he will revisit this topic in March.
