Fatal Crash On I-75 In Ocala Kills Two And Injures One

By

A collision on Interstate 75 between a minivan and a truck on Tuesday night resulted in the death of two family members and critically injured one.

The family from Leola, Pennsylvania, were traveling to Sarasota, according to the Ocala Star-Banner.

Both vehicles were heading southbound when the van met head on with the rebar, or reinforcing steel bars, hanging off of the truck’s trailer at around 8 p.m. The steel bars shattered through the van’s windshield, puncturing the 27-year-old driver and his 80-year-old grandmother, the newspaper reported. Both vehicles stuck together until they came to a stop on the highway’s shoulder.

The 82-year-old grandfather, who was the front passenger, was rescued by the officers and sent to the local hospital.

The 49-year-old driver from Anthony, Florida, had no injuries.
