Key West Police on Monday released the following body camera footage of officers responding to an incident early on the morning of March 7.

Officers there say William Smith Meyers, 22, kicked over two motorcycles while intoxicated during a spring break trip. Meyers is the University of Florida student body president-elect.

Meyers was charged with criminal mischief. He was released March 7 on a $328 bond.

The footage includes:

  • 0:30 of the video — Officer asking Meyers where he goes to school.
  • 3:00 — Additional officer's body cam footage begins.
  • 10:05 — Meyers asks why he's being detained.
  • 14:50 — The arrest is made.

Meyers sent a statement to The Alligator, promising to "be as transparent as possible as the case continues."

Many students though have been calling for his resignation.
