Gainesville May Amend Smoking Ban Ordinance To Include All RTS Facilities

By and

Gainesville may expand its crackdown on smoking to include all RTS facilities as well as public parks. The new amendment would update the previous ordinance, which regulated smoking only at bus stops. The new ordinance would cover shelters, transfer stations and terminal stations.

Gainesville resident Ladonna Smith has been smoking cigarettes since she was 16 years old, but she supports the ban. Smith said the ban would help her not want to smoke as well as change her mindset on the issue. There was a meeting open to public commentary on the ordinance on Tuesday night at City Hall.

  1. Will they ban all vehicle emissions since they are the true risk to health? There is essentially no risk to others from second hand smoke especially outdoors.
