After being attacked with an axe on Friday, a Silver Springs woman died Sunday.

On Friday, Durant Aundrey Smith, 40, went to the woman’s home to receive some of his belongings, where he was involved in a fight between her and another woman, Brittney Suber, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office. He beat one woman, who he said was the mother of his child, with an ax, while he attacked the other with a piece of wood.

The woman attacked with the ax was taken from her home to the Ocala Regional Medical Center with head injuries, according to the police report. She had no brain activity and was breathing through a ventilator before she died Sunday, according to a press release.

Before being released from the hospital, Suber, 23, was treated for bruises and a broken arm.

Smith was arrested on charges of burglary of dwelling, probation violation, attempted murder, aggravated battery, violation of injunction, and battery and domestic violence injunction. He is being held at the Marion County Jail without bond.
