Putnam County Child In Critical Condition After Dog Attack

By

A 22-month-old boy is in critical condition after he was bitten by a dog Monday afternoon, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Putnam County Rescue personnel responded to a call from a person who was driving with the child in search of assistance following the attack. The attack occurred on Melrose Landing Boulevard, and deputies met them at a Dollar General Store in western Putnam County.

The child was then transported to UF Health in Gainesville. He experienced respiratory arrest in the ambulance, but was revived.

At the time of the release, he was in surgery and listed in critical condition.

Putnam County Animal Control responded to the scene and took possession of seven dogs located on the property.

An initial investigation suggests the child and his mother were visiting a friend and that the child was outside alone when he was attacked, according to the release.
