Florida Heat Poses Threat to Wildlife Sanctuaries

Carson Springs Wildlife Conservation Foundation and the Santa Fe Teaching Zoo are finding ways to ensure that animals are safe from the Florida heat.

The staff has been using fans, misters, lots of shade and pools of water to keep the animals cool during the recent heat wave.

For the animals' caretakers, behavior and body language are clear indicators for an animal experiencing heat stress. Animals that are less active, have their mouths open frequently or always looking for the shadiest part of their enclosure are all signs.
