Alachua County Hero honored with Citizen’s Coin of Excellence

By

Johnathan Medeiros, a Gainesville resident and active member of the U.S. Army, received the Citizens Coin of Excellence on Thursday from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office after issuing medical assistance to a teen in June.

The teen was boarding a school bus when a semi-truck crashed into the bus, seriously injuring the student. The driver of the semi-truck recently plead not guilty to a charge of careless driving and has a hearing set for Sept. 7.

Medeiros is still in contact with the family and the teen is recovering quickly.
