Alligator Bites Off Part Of Florida Man's Forearm

LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) — Police in central Florida say an alligator bit off part of a man's arm when he jumped into a lake where a sign warning of gators was posted.

Sgt. Gary Gross said in a news release that police were called Wednesday evening by a 21-year-old man's mother following a domestic disturbance. She said her son had run into a wooded area behind their apartment in Lakeland.

The man called and told her his location. When police arrived they found him on the ground. He told officers he swam back across a lake where a sign warning of alligators was posted.

Officers said he was missing about three-quarters of his left forearm. The man is being treated at a hospital. No further details were immediately available.
